Family Law Clerk (Remote → Hybrid) — Veridian Law (Ontario)

Veridian Law is a Markham-based practice focused on family law, including separation agreements, divorce, parenting/decision‑making responsibilities, child and spousal support, and property division/equalization, with an emphasis on responsive, practical client service.
Role OverviewThe Family Law Clerk will initially support one lawyer, with the potential to support two as the practice grows. This remote role requires strong file ownership, deadline management, and high‑quality drafting and procedural execution. This is not an entry‑level position.
Key Responsibilities- Drafting and document production:
Prepare, draft, and revise family law documents, including (as applicable) applications, pleadings, affidavits, financial statements (Form 13/13.1), net family property statements/equalization summaries, conference briefs, parenting plans/terms, separation agreements, and related execution packages. - Court process support:
Prepare materials for service and filing, maintain proof of service, and update the Continuing Record as required. - File lifecycle management:
Open, maintain, and close files in accordance with firm protocols and applicable LSO‑related practice requirements; ensure file materials remain accurate, complete, and up to date (electronic and hard copy). - Disclosure management:
Request, organize, and track disclosure; maintain disclosure logs and follow‑ups; prepare organized briefs for conferences and settlement discussions. - Scheduling and deadline control:
Schedule meetings, key dates, and deadlines; maintain calendars for assigned lawyer(s); monitor file progress and ensure internal and court deadlines are met. - Liaison function:
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, process servers, and external experts. - Time and billing support:
Enter time/dockets and assist with billing records in LEAP (as applicable). - General support:
Provide administrative and litigation support as required.
- Law Clerk diploma/degree (or equivalent relevant experience).
- 3–5 years of Ontario family law clerk experience (required).
- Familiarity with the Family Law Rules, court processes, and family law documentation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong follow‑through in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort managing sensitive client communications.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
- Self‑motivated, collaborative, and adaptable, with the ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.
- Strong proficiency with legal technology; must be able to use LEAP with minimal training (guidance available).
