Snr Payroll Specialist
Location: Markham, IN-OFFICE

Company Overview: Our client is a global leader in the building materials and construction space, spanning multiple countries. The North American headquarters is located in Markham and consists of eight operating entities in the CDA region, with continued growth.
Role OverviewReporting to the Payroll Manager, the Snr Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the full Canadian payroll cycle for multiple companies, both unionized and non‑unionized. You will create and maintain efficiencies with systems and technologies, implement policies and procedures, and complete year‑end tasks.
Responsibilities- Prepare detailed payroll summaries, labour costing reports, and variance analyses for Finance and operational leaders.
- Perform payroll department operations for multiple companies (union and non‑union) including processing weekly and bi‑weekly payroll, retroactive payments, taxable benefits, garnishments, and ensuring compliance with company procedures and legislation.
- Prepare and report WSIB, EHT, Union Dues, DSPS, and RRSP contributions.
- Prepare and reconcile year‑end payroll data, including T4s, taxable benefits, pension adjustments, WCB, EHT, and PIER analysis, ensuring compliance with governing bodies.
- Stay informed on legislative and governing bodies changes impacting.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to HR, Finance, and senior leadership, ensuring payroll policies, procedures, and reporting are accurate and compliant.
- Lead, manage, and ensure the timely filing of payroll tax returns T4s, source deductions, EHT, ROE audits, and ensure compliance with remittance requirements.
- Assist with implementation, optimization, and maintenance of payroll and time & attendance systems to ensure a single, compliant platform across all Canadian companies.
- PCP and PLP certification required.
- 7+ years of payroll experience, with a minimum of 4+ years in a large, multi‑entity, complex environment.
- Extensive multi‑provincial payroll knowledge, unionized and non‑unionized experience.
- Experience working with multiple systems and software such as ADP, Power Pay, Jonas, Quick Books, Business Dynamics D365, or similar.
- Experience with payroll system implementations and complex integrations is preferred.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
