Project Accountant
Join Stantec as a Project Accountant (PA). Report to a Project Accounting Lead (PAL) and manage the financial performance of project portfolios using Stantec’s controls, policies, and practices.
Your OpportunityTake the first step in designing your career. As a Project Accountant, you will be responsible for the overall financial management of a portfolio of projects, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, internal controls, and IFRS.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Perform financial management of assigned projects, including setup, maintenance, invoicing, and closure.
- Provide excellent customer service and deliver high quality work that meets or exceeds expectations.
- Build strong relationships with Project Managers (PM) and Project Manager Assistants (PMA) and serve as a trusted advisor.
- Collaborate with Finance Managers, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to ensure collaborative teamwork.
- Organize and prioritize workload to complete deliverables on time and escalating issues to PAL as required.
- Implement process or procedural changes identified and rolled out by management.
- Recommend appropriate work breakdown structure (WBS), issue accurate invoices, and perform ad hoc functions as requested.
- Evaluate project setup and budget change documentation for compliance with contractual requirements, internal controls and IFRS.
- Coordinate with Stantec’s finance team in Pune, India to ensure timely delivery of tasks.
- Prepare audit support and respond to inquiries from PA Leadership and Finance Managers.
- Experience with Oracle preferred but not required.
- Strong organization, adaptability to change, and attention to detail.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills.
- General accounting knowledge through experience or education.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to identify potential financial implications and mitigate downstream impacts.
- Basic Microsoft Excel skills required; intermediate preferred.
- Ability to independently review contracts and understand terms for project type, scope, and invoicing.
- Post‑secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred.
- 0–3 years of related experience preferred but not required.
