Overview
Betz Pools is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its finance function and support strategic growth. This role will streamline operations, enhance reporting accuracy, and provide financial insights to guide decision-making. Working closely with the COO and department heads, the Controller will modernize systems, strengthen controls, and help drive profitability across a contractor-heavy, seasonal business.
Responsibilities- Lead all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with bank covenants and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, invoicing, and expense tracking across seasonal and contractor-based operations.
- Evaluate and restructure the finance department to improve efficiency and eliminate redundancies.
- Maximize utilization of Net Suite by implementing dashboards, automating reporting, and reducing manual workflows.
- Formalize internal controls and accounting policies to enhance accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with department heads on project costing and profitability modeling.
- Support geographic expansion initiatives with financial modeling and contractor margin analysis.
- Provide financial insights to the COO and executive team to guide operational and strategic decisions.
- Manage and mentor the finance team, including performance assessments and personnel recommendations.
- Lead change management efforts to align staff with best practices and company goals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Liaise with external partners including MNP (accounting firm), National Bank, and benefit providers.
- Prepare and present quarterly financial reports and covenant updates to financial institutions.
- CPA designation required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Proficiency in Net Suite or similar ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of project-based accounting, revenue recognition, and cost control.
- Experience with payroll systems and government remittances (HST, WSIB, etc.).
- Minimum 5–7 years in a senior accounting or controller role.
- Prior experience in construction, contractor-heavy, or seasonal service industries strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead teams, drive change, and manage cross-functional relationships.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and high-end clients.
- High integrity, reliability, and accountability.
- Onsite presence required—remote work is not permitted.
- Comfortable working in a blue-collar, hands-on environment with seasonal fluctuations.
