As a Sr. Energy Engineer at Honeywell, you will play a pivotal role in managing energy guarantees for Public Private Partnership (P3) projects across Ontario. You will be involved in all project phases-from bid through operations-with an initial focus on operations. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic team.

You will report directly to our Sr. Engineering Manager, and you'll work out of our Markham, ON location.

Fantastic career opportunity for a Sr. Energy Engineer in Markham, ON. Join our dynamic Engineer team in Building Automation at Honeywell, driving energy performance across high-impact P3 projects in Ontario.Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Eligible for or possess a Professional Engineer license in Ontario
  • Able to walk and climb ladders while working at customer sites and equipment rooms.
  • Class G Driver's License and access to vehicle for periodic site visits to GTA, Hamilton, Whitby and London area.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Energy Management or Mechanical Design.

  • 7+ years of experience with building automation systems, software, commissioning, or operations related HVAC Design/Construction experience.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation
  • Public Private Partnership (P3) experience and knowledge of energy modelling software and measurement verification (M&V).
  • Assertive communicator with strong verbal and written skills in English.
  • Ability to recognize trends, spot problems with data, and effectively manage time.
  • Strong process-oriented approach to achieve high-quality results.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and influence decisions in a multi-functional team environment.

  • Risk and Opportunity Assessment: Analyze RFP documents to identify potential risks and opportunities and provide comprehensive risk assessments to management.
  • Energy Assessment: Collaborate with the design team and energy consultants to develop robust energy models that support the bid.
  • Energy Saving Opportunities: Advise on potential energy-saving opportunities and assist in the development of a preliminary metering scheme.
  • Client Engagement: Prepare and present customer presentations to highlight the benefits of the proposed design. Engage in negotiations to safeguard Honeywell's interests and ensure achievable energy commitments.
Design Phase:
  • Design Review: Scrutinize design documents throughout the design and construction phases to ensure energy commitments are achievable.
  • Consultation: Work with consultants to address and resolve any energy-related issues.
  • Metering Scheme: Validate that the metering scheme is adequate for managing the energy guarantee.
  • Planning Documents: Develop Measurement and Verification (M&V) Plans (IPMVP Option D, Method
    2) and Energy Management Plans for typical 30-year contracts.
Operations Phase:
  • Coordination: Collaborate with builders and engineering consultants to address deficiencies, provide feedback, and contribute to solution development.
  • Contractual Compliance: Offer guidance to ensure all contractual energy requirements are fulfilled.
  • Commissioning Support: Assist the Facility Management (FM) team in the commissioning process to ensure energy guarantees are met.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze energy usage data, oversee energy reports, and investigate discrepancies in consumption. Present findings, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend improvements.
  • Energy Conservation: Work with site/building automation technicians to implement energy conservation measures. Manage client expectations and advise on the energy implications of proposed building changes.
  • Meetings: Lead Utility Subcommittee meetings (typically quarterly) and provide insights into energy performance and potential improvements.
