About Stantec

At Stantec, we design with community in mind. We are a global leader in engineering, architecture, and consulting, delivering safe, reliable and efficient solutions for energy, industrial and infrastructure clients. Our teams work across disciplines – from pipelines and terminals to heavy industrial process facilities and water treatment plants – to help clients adapt to a changing energy landscape.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical / Pipeline Engineer to support our Pipelines & Heavy Industrial Processes (HIP) team in Eastern Canada. In this role, you will contribute to both cross-country pipeline projects and facility / heavy industrial work, including compressor and pump stations, terminals, and process plants.

You will work closely with senior engineers and designers in Canada and abroad, supporting design, construction, and commissioning activities. The role is part-time with flexibility, suitable for an engineer with strong international experience who is looking to build a long-term presence in the Canadian consulting environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support the definition and configuration of project scope, options and concepts for pipelines, stations, terminals and heavy industrial facilities.

  • Perform technical analyses and engineering calculations for:

    - Cross-country gas/liquid pipelines (wall thickness, stability, hydraulics, crossings).

  • Facility and plant piping (pressure ratings, line sizing, stress input, tie-ins).

  • Prepare technical documents, including engineering assessments, design memoranda, construction scopes of work, commissioning procedures, and contributions to proposals and reports.

  • Develop and review conceptual and detailed drawings, including:

    - Road and utility crossings (HDD, auger bore, open-cut).

  • Pipeline alignment sheets and plan & profile drawings.

  • Plot plans, equipment layouts and site plans for valve stations, launcher/receiver sites, and process units.

  • Piping general arrangements and isometric drawings for pipelines, stations and heavy industrial facilities.

  • Prepare and maintain bills of materials and material take-offs for pipelines, piping systems and associated infrastructure.

  • Assemble engineering workpacks and construction scopes of work, including work sequences, interfaces, assumptions, and hold points.

  • Provide construction and commissioning support, including review of procedures and method statements, answering site technical queries, and supporting pre-commissioning / commissioning activities.

  • Coordinate with multi-discipline teams (civil/structural, geotechnical, electrical, process) to ensure designs are integrated and constructible.

  • Apply relevant codes, standards and client specifications (e.g., CSA Z662, ASME B31.3/4/8, API, client design practices) in developing engineering deliverables.

  • Contribute to health, safety, and environmental considerations in design and construction.

  • Support business development and proposals as needed (scope definition, man-hour estimates, technical write-ups).

  • Education and Registration

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or related Engineering discipline.

  • Registration (or clear eligibility pathway) with a Canadian engineering association (e.g., EIT/CPI or P.Eng with PEO, OIQ, or other provincial regulator) is an asset.

  • Strong international pipeline / facility experience with willingness to pursue Canadian registration will be considered.

  • Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in pipeline, piping, and/or industrial facility engineering, ideally covering both:

    - Cross-country transmission pipelines, and

  • Stations, terminals, or process plants (oil & gas, NGL/LPG, gas storage, or similar).

  • Experience with construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning of pipelines and/or industrial facilities is an asset.

  • Experience with HDD / trenchless and open-cut crossings, valve stations, pump/compressor stations, and associated utility systems is an asset.

  • Technical Skills

  • Solid knowledge of pipeline and piping codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3/4/8, API, and (ideally) CSA Z662, with the ability to adapt existing experience to Canadian regulatory requirements.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; familiarity…
