Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to support Construction Management Services for a Progressive Design-Build (PDM) program within the Water Business Line in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This is a full-time, site-based position located at an active construction site during standard construction hours.

The successful candidate will work closely with the client and the Design-Builder on a daily basis and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team consisting of office support staff, contract administrators, inspectors, and construction management personnel. Reporting directly to the Senior Construction Operations Manager, the Construction Manager will be responsible for overseeing the construction program team on site. The position may be based out of one of AECOM’s GTA offices.

This position is for a newly created position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead construction program management for a program valued at approximately $1B, including progress reporting, submittal coordination, client and contractor communication, and timely responses to RFIs, RFCs, COs, and related documentation.

  • Serve as AECOM’s Onsite Safety Officer.

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager, Design Team, Client, and Contractor to expedite solutions to technical field challenges.

  • Review all construction submittals and oversee QA/QC processes to ensure compliance with contract requirements.

  • Coordinate directly with the Lead Design Engineer and discipline leads regarding design changes and construction submittals.

  • Coordinate with concurrent contracts and project teams operating on the same site.

  • Participate in the negotiation of change orders related to design changes.

  • Contribute to the resolution of contractor delay claims and other contractual matters.

  • Attend and document all onsite construction meetings, including daily safety/tailgate meetings and weekly progress meetings.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline, plus a minimum of 12 years’ experience in the design and/or construction of water/wastewater infrastructure projects; or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience managing projects valued at $250M+.

  • Construction management experience on large municipal water or wastewater treatment facilities ($50M+).

  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience on water/wastewater infrastructure projects.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • 25+ years of construction management experience, including work on major horizontal infrastructure (e.g., piling, deep excavations, reinforced concrete, piping systems, dewatering, and related works).

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, respond effectively to shifting priorities, make sound decisions under pressure, and maintain professional composure with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prior municipal construction management experience.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
