Purpose:

Prepares lesson plans aligned to Iowa Core and district-identified priority standards. Instructs students and evaluates progress through common formative and summative assessments. Provides a positive learning climate that encourages creativity and problem solving, promotes the school system’s mission, vision, goals, and core values, and maximizes educational opportunities for each student.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement instruction aligned to the Standards and students’ individual education goals.
  • Engage as an active learner and collaborator in Professional Learning Communities that work together to ensure high quality teaching and student learning.
  • Evaluate and report student progress toward goals and general academic and behavioral growth according to District policies and practices.
  • Maintain all required paperwork and submit assignments and reports on time as directed by District Administrators and Supervisors.
  • Implement and use classroom management techniques to maintain a safe, engaging, and productive environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Implement and use research-based instructional strategies that motivate students and provide relevancy.
  • Evaluate student performance and achievements in curriculum and activities, using formative assessment to adjust instruction to meet learning needs.
  • Communicate with students and parents, informing them of evaluation methods and practices, student progress, and instructional methods to support academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth and success.
  • Direct and monitor the activities of special education associates and classroom volunteers.
  • Use assessments to determine student mastery of academic standards and plan for interventions as needed.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Develop and maintain specific instructions for substitutes to support effective management and learning.
  • Prepare for and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Prepare all reports required by the principal or district administration in a timely manner.
  • Make suggestions for changes and improvements to the building principal or district administration.
  • Establish a classroom community that is supportive of diversity and creates a sense of community and belonging.
  • Engage in the evaluation process with a focus on continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Valid Iowa Teaching License and appropriate endorsement(s) for assigned grade levels or courses.
  • Mandatory Reporter:
    Child and Adult Dependent Abuse Certification.

continuously use hand strength to grasp items; frequently bend or twist at the neck or trunk; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0-12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet; push or pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, and assessment data.

Conditions

The work environment is quiet to loud, may be indoors and/or outdoors, may be in non‑air‑conditioned rooms, and follows a tobacco- and alcohol-free policy. It is a fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, and the public. This position may require evening responsibilities and direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
