OverviewThe Quality & SHES Specialist is responsible for driving continuous improvement in Safety, Health, Environment, Security (SHES) and Quality Systemsat the manufacturing site(s). This role ensures regulatory compliance, maintains Minova’s license to operate, and oversees quality document control, training systems, audits, and data integrity for both steel and chemical operations. The supervisor partners with site leadership and the Regional Safety Team to manage risk, promote a zero-injury culture, and ensure effective quality and safety management systems.
Key Accountabilities
SHES
- Promote a safe work environment with zero injuries or health risks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, industry standards, and Minova SHES Management Systems.
- Maintain site license to operate through regulatory compliance and proactive risk management.
- Provide timely advice and guidance on safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Measure site performance against SHES policies and develop corrective action plans.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain SHES risk profiles; implement initiatives to mitigate and prevent risk.
- Lead and deliver SHES training, including monthly safety meetings, new employee orientation, contractor safety inductions
- Support SHES assurance activities and internal/external audits.
- Manage and document interactions with regulatory authorities, including SHARPS certification.
- Support leaders in executing their SHES responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Foster a culture of self-motivation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Quality Systems & Document Control
- Perform Quality document control functions including document logging, tracking, revision, approval, distribution, and archiving.
- Coordinate review and approval of SOPs, specifications, test methods, validation protocols, and technical reports for steel and chemical operations.
- Maintain change control and deviation processes.
- Review, file, and maintain Raw Material Certificates of Analysis.
- Create and maintain quality data files for raw and finished products to support analysis and decision-making.
- Maintain Quality Systems access and permissions.
- Organize and maintain accurate electronic and paper-based quality records.
- Maintain in-house training programs, including training matrices, training files, and annual training audits.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to documentation requests.
- Order and track external standards.
- Maintain floor schedules and quality logs for all steel plants: ensure schedules are linked to correct logs, verify accurate data flow, coordinate with plant representatives to keep records current
- Prioritize tasks effectively to support uninterrupted production.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Safety, Engineering, Science, or Quality-related degree
OR
equivalent experience endorsed by Regional Senior Manager. - 3–5 years of experience in Safety, Environmental, and/or Quality roles in a manufacturing environment.
- Steel manufacturing experience preferred.
- Practical knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, ANSI, and applicable environmental regulations.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015.
- Experience with electronic document management systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Access databases.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
