Position OverviewThe concrete mixer truck driver safely operates a vehicle designed to manufacture, deliver, and unload ready-mixed concrete to customer sites. The driver receives direction and work assignments from the designated dispatcher/plant manager, delivers to job sites with difficult and congested unloading points, and may perform truck and plant cleanliness duties such as shoveling and sweeping. A minimum of a Class B CDL is required.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)- Work safely and efficiently.
- Maintain the work area and vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.
- Comply with all OSHA and USDOT/FMCSA safe‑operating practices.
- Use supplied PPE as directed.
- Operate the ready‑mix concrete truck to deliver to construction sites safely and efficiently, obeying applicable laws and dispatch instructions.
- Maintain communication with Dispatcher or Plant Manager regarding deliveries.
- Check delivery tickets for special instructions and complete as required.
- Frequently climb an 8‑foot ladder to ensure proper loading and obtain required signatures; handle 50‑pound mixer chutes safely; add admixtures to drum when necessary.
- Maintain truck cleanliness, including rinsing the drum before and after deliveries.
- Collect money from customers and record transactions on customer receipt.
- Read and write receipts and ticket information; respond to basic customer questions.
- Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safe operation and report maintenance or repair issues.
- Utilize tablet/computer skills and follow GPS or map books.
- Perform other functions as necessary, including truck or plant maintenance, sweeping, shoveling, or yard work while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Be willing to work nights and weekends as required.
- Work safely and efficiently without supervision.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties.
- Willingness to work independently when needed.
- Maintain timely and regular attendance in accordance with the workplace schedule.
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment as required by OSHA and/or MSHA, including but not limited to gloves, hard hat, reflective vest, safety shoes, and seatbelt.
QualificationsMust possess a valid Class B CDL. Other knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- High school diploma preferred or equivalent; or minimum of 1 year of related experience or training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to present information to customers and employees.
- Mathematical ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds.
- Reasoning ability to apply common sense and handle standardized situations.
- Stress tolerance to handle customer service demands and complaints.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, bend, kneel, squat, climb, stand, walk, drive, and use fine motor skills.
- Visual abilities including close, distance, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
The employee must acquire and maintain a valid DOT medical card and a state‑issued commercial driver license.
Physical RequirementsRegularly required to sit, use hands, handle tools, talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, climb, stand, walk, drive, use fine motor skills, and handle repetitive motion.
