Hi-Vac Corporation is seeking an experienced Service Technician to support the company's factory service department. This role is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing Hi-Vac manufactured equipment both in the factory service shop and in the field at customer and dealer locations.

The Service Technician must have strong working knowledge of Hi-Vac equipment systems and diesel engines, and be capable of troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain-related issues. This role provides direct factory-level service and technical support to customers and dealers while delivering a high standard of professionalism and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Service & Technical Support
  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Hi-Vac equipment in the factory service shop and in the field.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment systems including:
  • Diesel engines
  • Blowers and vacuum systems
  • Water pumps
  • PTO systems and drive lines
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Electrical and control systems
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance activities, including fluid checks, filter replacement, belt and hose inspection, and system adjustments.
  • Identify root causes of equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to restore reliable operation.
  • Accurately complete clear, professional service reports documenting diagnostics, repairs performed, parts used, and follow-up recommendations using company systems.
Field & Shop Operations
  • Support both in-shop service work and field service calls, including scheduled and emergency service.
  • Travel to customer and dealer locations for on-site troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities.
  • Document service work performed in accordance with Hi-Vac service, warranty, and documentation procedures.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, organized, and professional condition.
  • Support factory service activities such as pre-delivery inspections (PDI), commissioning support, and post-repair validation as required.
Customer & Dealer Support
  • Represent Hi-Vac professionally when working with customers and dealers.
  • Communicate service findings, repair status, and maintenance recommendations clearly.
  • Provide basic guidance on proper equipment operation and care when needed.
  • Coordinate with the Service Manager, parts, engineering, and other internal teams to ensure timely and effective service completion.
  • Assist with equipment walkarounds, startup support, or basic demonstrations during delivery, commissioning, or service visits as needed.
Qualifications:

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training in diesel, heavy equipment, or related field preferred.
Experience & Skills
  • Demonstrated experience servicing diesel engines and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Hi-Vac equipment or similar industrial vacuum, hydro-excavation, or heavy equipment systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work independently in both shop and field environments.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and service documentation.
  • Proficient in basic computer use, including service management systems, email, and written service documentation.
  • Ability to write clear, well-organized service reports suitable for customer, dealer, and internal use.
Licensing & Travel
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel l for field service work.
  • CDL is a plus but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Combination of shop-based and outdoor field work.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull equipment components consistent with service work.
  • Ability to work in industrial, construction, and municipal jobsite environments.
