Transportation Engineer 1 (TE1) or Transportation Engineer 2 (TE2), PN
The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. The hire will complete ODOT’s Transportation Civil Engineering Program including a 12‑month training plan and scheduled rotations through the department’s core engineering disciplines:
Planning & Engineering, Construction, and Highway Maintenance.
- Receive a thorough introduction to the three core civil engineering disciplines.
- Work alongside ODOT professional engineers.
- Receive hands‑on transportation training and experience needed to further your career as an engineer with ODOT.

QualificationsTransportation Engineer 1 (TE1)
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Accepted for Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT exam) by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
Transportation Engineer 2 (TE2)
- Valid certificate as Engineer‑In‑Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
- 12 months experience as Transportation Engineer 1 (classification 85641).
- Or Bachelor’s degree in engineering; valid certificate as Engineer‑In‑Training issued or accepted as equivalent and 2 years engineering‑related experience.
- Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for mandated registration.
