Overview
Build Trades Technician II – Facilities Management at Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services. Perform intermediate to high‑level skilled trades work in the renovation and maintenance of county‑owned buildings and facilities.
Essential Functions- Maintain, repair, and renovate county buildings, equipment, and systems; design or draw project plans; read blueprints or design drawings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards; conduct maintenance inspections; initiate corrective actions.
- Perform building maintenance, renovations, and repair tasks such as flooring, ceiling tiles, fixtures, appliances, and equipment.
- Determine materials needed; provide cost projections; gather equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; monitor inventory; order replacements.
- Supervise maintenance staff and contractors; ensure safe operation of trades tools and power equipment; adhere to safety standards.
- Perform electrical tasks: troubleshoot problems; install and replace wiring, receptacles, switches; establish connections; repair components; replace breakers and lights.
- Perform plumbing tasks: troubleshoot problems; install, repair, and replace pump‑mechanical equipment, plumbing systems, and fixtures; clear lines and drains; repair leaks; solder pipes.
- Perform HVAC tasks: install or repair duct systems; replace filters; troubleshoot heating and air‑conditioning system problems.
- Use technology such as smartphones or tablets and associated applications; utilize specialized software and equipment related to job function.
- Purchase construction and maintenance items; deliver financial paperwork to administrative staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational or technical training in one or more building trades; three years of experience in building construction, maintenance, and repair.
Preferred QualificationsHVAC experience preferred.
Licenses and CertificationsValid Driver’s License required.
Physical AbilitiesHeavy physical effort in heavy work, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects (20‑50 lbs); occasional heavier objects (up to 100 lbs).
Sensory RequirementsPerceive and discriminate colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth texture, and visual cues; communicate orally.
Environmental FactorsExposure to adverse conditions: dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, noise, electric currents.
