Overview
This position is located in the Cobb County PARKS Department, at the Milford Recreation Center (675 Smyrna Powder Springs RD SW, Marietta GA 30060).
Depending on area of assignment, performs a variety of duties across multiple areas:
- Landscaping: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; and removes snow and ice, etc.
- Maintenance and construction: resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields and courts; paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairs and assembles fences and playground equipment; builds sets and staging, shelves and other items; performs light plumbing, electrical, masonry and carpentry repairs, etc.
- Custodial duties: cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas; vacuums carpets; hoses decks; scrubs and waxes floors; dusts; washes windows; empties trash; sets up and tears down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events.
- Inventory and supplies: maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies; gathers supplies and equipment to complete work assignments; transports supplies to and from work site; initiates orders for materials and equipment needed; maintains related documentation.
- Equipment operation: operates County vehicles and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheelbarrow, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, backhoes, and other power or motorized equipment, depending on area of assignment.
- General maintenance: performs tasks to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition (inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing, washing/cleaning, cleaning shop and work areas); monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
- Other duties: performs other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in building maintenance, parks, landscaping or related field. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory RequirementsSome tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental FactorsPerformance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, confined spaces, machinery, or electric currents.
