The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team who ensures patients, families and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe care. This role works in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice and research.

As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence-based practice, applying analytical/critical thinking, ensuring care is individualized, and coordinating care through effective partnerships to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Delivers relationship-based, patient-centered care reflecting population characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapting service delivery to cultural diversity.
  • Partners with the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using appropriate methods (e.g., bedside shift report; interdisciplinary rounds; just-in-time and planned patient teaching) to keep the patient and goals at the center of the plan of care.
  • Practices using current clinical standards; demonstrates teamwork and collaboration.
  • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, supporting an inclusive clinical environment through diverse interdisciplinary communication (interdisciplinary rounds, case review, etc.) and timely documentation.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner, promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participates in performance improvement inclusive of all stakeholders, research and evidence-based practice; may initiate or lead activities and support/shared governance at multiple levels.
  • Completes initial and ongoing professional competency assessment and mandatory education; provides population-specific education as needed.
  • Serves as a preceptor/mentor for other nurses and staff to ensure a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in value analysis as part of decision-making for patient care products.
  • Upholds all policies and procedures, legal/regulatory requirements and standards (e.g., Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals, Wellstar safety absolutes).
  • Participates in data collection, asks clinical questions, and uses appropriate resources to address practice questions.
  • Proactively plans for patient care across the continuum and collaborates to develop protocols and procedures with care managers and the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reduce readmissions, avoidable days, adverse events).
  • Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.

Required Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

  • RN (Single State) – required
  • RN - Multi-state Compact – required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
  • BLS Instructor – required
  • BLS Provisional – required

Additional Licenses And Certifications

  • As applicable per position and state requirements

Required Minimum Experience and Required Minimum Skills

  • Ability to read, write and speak English; proficient with technology to support clinical care; basic computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies decisively, calmly, and respectfully
