Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and/or department manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases.
The technologist is able to independently perform job functions, setting up equipment, positioning patients, and performing procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural setting.
- Prepare the patient for procedure and demonstrate understanding of sterile technique.
- Set up imaging equipment and position patient for the procedure.
- Perform diagnostic and interventional procedures in IR and vascular hybrid settings.
- Enter appropriate charges for supplies and procedures (SIM CODES).
- Collaborate with radiologists, vascular surgeons, cardiologists and other VI staff.
- Maintain departmental records, Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations, and performance improvement activities.
- Review and verify patient two identifiers, verify written orders and consents, and perform pre‑procedural verification and time‑out forms.
- Provide patient, family, and support system education and post‑procedural home‑care instructions.
- Maintain current license and BLS certifications, and assist in in‑service/training for other staff.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by leadership.
Minimum Education
Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Radiology Technology.
Required Minimum License and Certification(s)- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor
- ARRT Radiography
Minimum one year experience in Diagnostic Radiology.
Required Minimum Skills- Competency in all aspects of diagnostic radiology procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection.
- Understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect quality of procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication and a positive attitude.
