Job Description
This exciting position is with our historic Skunk Works program. Skunk Works is an integral part of Lockheed’s Aeronautics business area responsible for advanced systems development including conceptual design and rapid prototyping of clean‑sheet solutions and improvements and derivatives to existing systems. The ideal Skunk is an agile, multi‑faceted teammate who loves to solve our customer’s most difficult challenges. Our projects have supported the U‑2, SR‑71 Blackbird, F‑22 Raptor, F‑117 Nighthawk encouraged and F‑35 Lightning II.

The successful engineer will possess laboratory skills, perform research, testing and/or product development across multiple engineering disciplines such as electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical. This position requires obtaining a DoD Secret Clearance, U.S. citizenship, a respirator certification, and the ability to lift 20 lbs.
- Work alongside a team of engineers and technicians in a hands‑on, lab‑based environment to support the design, development, fabrication, and/or testing of low observable materials and systems
- Work with multiple classes of materials including thin films, polymers, composites, metals, foams and honeycombs, coatings, and additively‑manufactured materials
- Plan and execute research projects, including creating material development plans, material formulation, process development, test method development, material qualification, and scale‑up of successful product concepts for production
- Develop formal documentation such as authoring material and process specifications and/or generating Lab Reports documenting all work performed (including written, photographic, and data interpretation)
- Support manufacturing process development and scale‑up
- Interface with internal and external customers
- Coordinate with external suppliers regarding technical issues, parts fabrication, new materials and process development, and/or review of manufacturing plans
- Support the entire LO materials product life cycle to include sustainability, reliability, availability, and maintainability analyses as required
- Adhere to lab safety practices, including use of a respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Bachelor of Science inობთ Materials Engineering, Chemical बीच Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience with aerospace materials (polymers, composites, metals, etc) – development, production, educational, and/or testing of materials
- Project Management experience and/or technical leadership experience within materials
- Experience working in a Lab Environment or previous experience working in a hands‑on and/or manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with electrical and magnetic behavior of materials
- Experience with electrical, mechanical, chemical material characterization techniques
- Experience with data analysis, review, compilation, and presentation
- Excellent technical documentation and writing skills for creating/revising material and process specifications, reports, and test plans
- Excellent teammate – willing and able to work in a laboratory environment alone or with other team members
- Experience with project planning and project management
- Experience establishing, tracking foro, maintaining deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to plan/coordinate lab activities
- Experience building effective internal and external customer relationships
- Advanced degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering or equivalent
- Experience preparing and delivering technical presentations to supporting teams and leadership (e.g., briefing)
