Position Title: Principal Elementary

Responsible To: Deputy Superintendent

Essential Functions

Leading, directing, analyzing and monitoring all core processes and results of the school in order to create action plans designed to build a positive school culture and drive student achievement.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Georgia certificate in Educational Leadership.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience required.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience that has produced high levels of student achievement required.
Major Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

Fosters the success of all students through continuous school improvement by:

  • Developing, communicating, implementing and evaluating a shared vision of teaching and learning;
  • Analyzing achievement data and instructional strategies to make appropriate educational staffing and curriculum decisions;
  • Creating and implementing schedules and procedures that maximize instructional time; and
  • Providing developmental feedback and focus for staff professional learning.

School Climate

Promotes the success of all students by developing, advocating and sustaining an academically rigorous, positive and safe school climate for all stakeholders by:

  • Modeling and collaboratively promoting high expectations, mutual respect, concern and empathy for students, staff, parents and community;
  • Developing, communicating and implementing best practices in school-wide behavior management; and
  • Maintaining a collaborative environment that supports the staff.

Planning and Assessment

Gathers, analyzes, and uses a variety of data to inform planning and decision-making consistent with established guidelines, policies and procedures by:

  • Working collaboratively to establish performance goals that are consistent with the district’s strategic plan, develop and implement plans to achieve them and monitor achievement progress.
  • Collaboratively implementing the school improvement plan that results in increased student learning; and
  • Monitoring and evaluating the use of diagnostic, formative and summative assessments to provide timely and accurate feedback to students and parents and to inform instructional practices.

Organizational Management

Fosters the success of all students by supporting, managing and overseeing the school’s organization, operation, and use of resources by:

  • Demonstrating and communicating a working knowledge and understanding of Georgia public education rules, regulations, and laws, and school district policies and procedures;
  • Establishing and enforcing rules and policies to ensure a safe, secure, efficient and orderly facility and grounds;
  • Establishing and using accepted procedures to develop short and long-term goals through effective allocation of resources inclusive of effective budgeting; and
  • Identifying potential problems and dealing with them in a timely, consistent and effective manner.

Human Resources Management

Fosters effective human resources management through the selection, induction, support and retention of quality instructional and support personnel by:

  • Supporting formal building-level employee induction processes and mentoring procedures to support and assist all new personnel;
  • Managing the supervision of staff in accordance with local, state and federal requirements;
  • Effectively addressing barriers to teacher and staff performance; and
  • Promoting a collaborative, positive school culture and working conditions.

Teacher/Staff Evaluation

Provides school personnel with timely and constructive performance feedback and evaluating them in accordance with the state and district guidelines by:

  • Providing support, resources and remediation for teachers and staff to improve job performance;
