Position Information

The purpose of this classification is to assist in developing and implementing information and education services in agriculture and natural resources, consumer and family science and 4‑H youth programs, as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Assist in the planning and designing of informational and educational programming for the assigned area, including researching and developing content for programming; assisting in community needs assessments; gathering and reserving supplies/equipment as needed; creating handouts and informational supplements; and scheduling programming.
  • Assist the implementation of, and implement, informational and educational programming for the assigned area by teaching evidence‑based curriculums, ensuring lessons and learning modules are age‑ and learning‑level appropriate, gathering supplies and equipment, providing skill demonstrations, and supplementing academic classroom activities as needed.
  • Provide customer service to extension patrons and the public by receiving and responding to questions and requests for information, providing assistance and information related to extension programs, services, materials, or other issues in the assigned area; researching problems and initiating problem resolution; and enrolling the public for programs, services and materials.
  • Coordinate volunteers in the area of assignment by recruiting and training volunteers; researching and administering continuing educational classes; coordinating work and project activities; serving as a liaison to volunteers and community and governmental organizations; and assisting with various fundraising projects.
  • Coordinate various programming and presentations for the assigned area by communicating with community, groups, interested citizens, clubs, civic organizations, schools and related groups interested in education and development in the area; scheduling speakers and presentations; and scheduling activities and demonstrations.
  • Plan, lead, and supervise participants at various events and clubs, including conferences, summer camps, competitions, etc.; coordinate monthly meetings; arrange and organize physical space; recruit participants; judge competitions as needed; and assist with various award ceremonies as needed.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of public relations and communication for the extension services in the assigned area by creating, managing, and updating content on website and social media; creating and distributing flyers, schedules, calendars, brochures, emails, and other promotional materials; maintaining and updating email distribution lists; and attending public events/meetings.
  • Provide clerical duties as needed, including completing, preparing and submitting reports and forms on extension service activities; updating weekly and monthly calendars; transcribing meeting minutes; utilizing petty cash fund; and maintaining inventory of publications and other information for distribution.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in Education, Botany, Agriculture, Horticulture, Family and Consumer Science or related field; supplemented by two years of experience relevant to the area of assignment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating groups and volunteers
  • Background in agriculture, natural resources, animal science, or horticulture.
  • Experience teaching and leading programs.
Licenses and Certifications

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Physical Abilities

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5–10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
