Position Information
The purpose of the Dispatcher is to answer calls for demand response and center transportation services, schedule trips in the department’s scheduling software, assign routes, dispatch, and relay information to drivers (i.e., route, schedule changes, passenger pick‑up or drop‑off, via two‑way radio or messages on a smart device). The person in this position must provide real‑time monitoring of center and demand response routes to ensure coverage is adequate and services are meeting or exceeding expectations.
EssentialFunctions
- Answer incoming calls from Senior Services clients, customers, department personnel, and others: take accurate notes of needed service; determine nature and priority of calls; answer questions; route calls to appropriate personnel; and contact emergency response department when necessary.
- Dispatch personnel to clients' locations: operate two‑way radio or console; relay and confirm information, instructions and directives; and follow up with callers as needed.
- Schedule transportation for clients needing medical, dental, shopping or other appointments: input schedules into departmental system; and interpret and disseminate itinerary and routes to drivers.
- Perform general administrative support functions to support efficient unit operations, such as entering data, sending facsimiles, copying, and filing.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Generate and maintain records, reports, and files (e.g., on‑time performance, trip mileage log, and trip service units); respond to complaints and resolve problems.
High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by two years of experience in customer service or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred QualificationsPrior dispatch and customer service experience; strong computer skills; prior knowledge working with scheduling software.
Physical AbilitiesTasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5‑10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory RequirementsSome tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental FactorsEssential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
