FOR OSSTF SUPPORT STAFF
Hours of Work : Monday to Friday – 35 hours per week
Qualifications- Child and Youth Worker Diploma
- Developmental Services Worker Diploma
- Social Services Worker Diploma
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
- Two years’ experience
- Experience with functional behaviour assessment
- Computer literacy skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
The Child and Youth Worker contributes to the provision of a spectrum of services for children and youth who are dealing with a wide range of social, emotional or behavioural challenges. Their work focuses on behavioural concerns related to students in partnership with teachers, parents and support services personnel. Core functions include intervention and prevention strategies such as:
- Individual counselling
- Behavioural management
- Social and life skill instruction
- Group involvement
- Activities involving sport, drama or music
- In-class academic and social support
The position is guided by ongoing assessment and consultation with others involved with the student. Interdisciplinary consultation, school team meetings, case conferences, I.P.R.C.s, IEPs, and developing safety measures to protect students and staff are key functions.
