Purpose:

The A & P Aircraft Mechanic repairs, maintains, and services District aircraft in compliance with the directives and standards of the Federal Aviation Administration and policies and procedures as set forth by the District Board of Commissioners and administered by the Executive Director.

Reporting Responsibilities:

The A & P Aircraft Mechanic reports to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance.

Working Conditions:

The A & P Aircraft Mechanic will be exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, close proximity to moving mechanical parts, working in high places, small, confined spaces, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors and or oils and may be required to wear a respirator and other protective equipment as required. The A & P Aircraft Mechanic will be expected to perform very heavy work (frequently exerting in excess of 50 lbs.

of force to lift, carry, push, pull, twist, reach, or otherwise move objects) below, above the waist and shoulders.

Essential Functions (Without Accommodations):
  • Check and determine the need and extent of repair and maintenance to be made to District aircraft so that aircraft stays in proper working order.
  • Perform pre and post flight inspections and maintain District owned aircraft under the periodic inspection program specified by the FAA for charter aircraft in order to provide a reasonable assurance that aircraft are functioning properly.
  • Fuel aircraft and load with chemicals as required so that aircraft have enough fuel and chemicals for each mission.
  • Perform equipment calibration prior to missions to ensure proper amounts of chemicals are released from aircraft.
  • Perform inspections and repairs in order to submit any FAA required documents to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Maintain and rebuild aircraft engines and airframe as needed with an objective of all aircraft being mission ready.
  • Assist in the design and fabrication or modification of special equipment such as liquid and dry application equipment resulting in fully functioning equipment to assist in the abatement of mosquito populations.
  • Prepare requisitions and work orders under the direction of the Director of Aircraft Maintenance for parts and materials needed to maintain District aircraft in a state of readiness.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair to facilities in order to keep the building in good working order.
  • Operate forklifts and other ground support equipment as needed to help complete tasks.
  • Assist ground operations when needed with maintenance, repair, and operation of vehicles and spray equipment as necessary in order to have functioning ground equipment.
  • Reinforce aircraft operation sites when aircraft operations exceed the capacity of the Aircraft Support Technicians in the field.
  • Follow Federal and State laws and District policies regarding health and safety to ensure compliance.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of FAA rules and regulations governing configuration, restrictions, and modification of aircraft used for aerial pesticide application
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of aircraft maintenance
  • Knowledge of general maintenance, repair, and servicing techniques
Abilities &

Skills:
  • Ability to operate machinery, vehicles, and material handling equipment
  • Ability to receive instructions and to perform tasks assigned in a safe and efficient manner
Education, Training, &

Experience:
  • Completed high school education or equivalent trade school education
  • Five years' experience in aircraft maintenance
  • Must have an Airframe and Power plant License
  • Must be licensed in “Public Health Pest Control” from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services or able to obtain such certification within one year
  • Must hold a valid Florida CDL License or receive it within 1 year of hire date.
  • Must hold a valid forklift certificate in accordance with OSHA: 29 CFR
