The Town of Marana is seeking short-term temporary Background Investigators to work in the Police Department. This is a temporary position lasting up to 4-6 months, with the possibility of extension, and is not eligible for benefits. The position is expected to work no more than 19 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Schedules and conducts background interviews and investigations.
  • Develops and analyzes information from formal interviews, as well as information derived from law enforcement systems, public domain databases, social media websites, etc.
  • Researches criminal justice information, collects pertinent documents, analyzes evidence, and writes reports for review/action.
  • Performs clerical duties including typing and filing, updating and maintaining security on sensitive files.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency plus six months of additional education or training.
  • Over three years of experience conducting background investigations at the local law enforcement level in Arizona or a closely related field.
  • A valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, polygraph, and a motor vehicle records check.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.

Recruitment Process

Oral Board Interview:
Candidates who pass the initial screening may be invited to an oral board interview. The dates are to be determined. Candidates who successfully pass the oral board will proceed to the background investigation phase.

Background Investigation: A thorough background investigation will be conducted for candidates under consideration for employment. This investigation will be based upon information supplied by the candidate and will include a polygraph examination. You must be aware that sensitive or confidential aspects of your personal life will be explored. Depending on the information provided during the hiring process, an investigator may contact you at any time to clarify information.

Absolute honesty is expected and required throughout the entire hiring process.

Chief’s Interview:
Candidates who successfully pass the background check will be invited to a Chief’s Interview. The dates are to be determined.
