Marana is one of the fastest growing communities in Southern Arizona, located approximately 20 minutes northwest of downtown Tucson and 75 minutes southeast of Phoenix. The Town operates under a Strategic Plan with five focus areas:

The Town of Marana is seeking short-term temporary Background Investigators to work in the Police Department. This is a temporary position with an expected workload of no more than 19 hours per week for 4-6 months, with the possibility of extension, and it is not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Schedules and conducts background interviews and investigations.
  • Develops and analyzes information from formal interviews and data from law enforcement systems, public domain databases, social media, and other sources.
  • Researches criminal justice information, collects pertinent documents, analyzes evidence, and writes reports for review/action.
  • Performs clerical duties including typing, filing, and maintaining security on sensitive files.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency plus six months of additional education or training.
  • Over three years of experience conducting background investigations at the local law enforcement level in Arizona or a closely related field.
  • A valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, polygraph, and a motor vehicle records check.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.

Recruitment Process

To be considered for this position, all applicants must complete the Town of Marana application form online at  and the Non-Sworn Supplemental Application. Providing a resume is welcome; however, it will not substitute for completing all required sections of the application. Minimum qualifications will be evaluated based on information provided in the application. Incomplete applications or applications lacking required details may result in disqualification from the hiring process.

Oral

Board Interview

Candidates who pass the initial screening may be invited to an oral board interview. The dates are to be determined. Candidates who successfully pass the oral board will proceed to the background investigation phase.

Background Investigation

A thorough background investigation will be conducted for candidates under consideration for employment. This investigation will be based on information supplied by the candidate and will include a polygraph examination. Sensitive or confidential aspects of your personal life may be explored. Absolute honesty is expected throughout the hiring process.

Chief’s Interview

Candidates who successfully pass the background check will be invited to a Chief’s Interview. The dates are to be determined.

Job Offer

Finalists who pass the Chief’s Interview will be given a job offer. Depending on positions available, finalists may be placed on an eligibility list to fill future vacancies. The Police Department can exhaust the list at any time based on department needs.
