The Town of Marana is seeking a Backflow Prevention Inspector to work in the Water Department. This is a full-time position and is responsible for maintaining the Town’s Cross-Connection Control program and performing inspections for compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.

Normal work schedule:
Monday – Friday 7:00-3:30

Expected Hiring Range: $24.31 - $29.78

  • Placement within the expected hiring range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget.

Salary Range: $24.31 - $35.25

Responsibilities
  • Enforce and monitor the annual testing of customer-owned backflow prevention assemblies
  • Inspects plumbing, mechanical and equipment processes for actual or potential cross-connections
  • Prepares and distributes annual backflow test notices. Consults with customers and contractors regarding backflow compliance requirements
  • Perform inspections and issues permits for new and replacement installations of backflow assemblies
  • Conducts site inspections of residential and commercial backflow assembly installations and consults with customers regarding user agreements
  • Conducts non-routine investigations by locating cross connections, verifying applicable codes are met and assisting with the identification of actual and potential cross connections
  • Reviews development services plans by contacting customers, reviewing commercial building plans for service protection requirements
  • Conducts fire system inspections by inspecting and classifying fire systems, recording data and recommending backflow protection as required
  • Retrieves records, schedules and documents daily activities, compiles reports, and investigates complaints
  • Serves as liaison for other Town Departments in support of ongoing projects; attends meetings on behalf of Water Department
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency plus six months of additional education and/or training
  • Over one year of experience in code inspecting, plumbing, construction, backflow assembly testing and repair or closely related field
  • Possess a current Backflow Assembly Tester Certification
  • Possess a Water Distribution Grade I Certification with the ability to obtain a Water Distribution Grade II certification within 12 months of hire
  • Ability to obtain a Water Treatment Grade I certification within 12 months of hire
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Arizona Driver License
  • Must complete a pre-employment physical
  • Must complete both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check

Preferred Requirements:

  • Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification
  • Experience with NJB Soft SAMS XC database
