3M is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Logistics Engineering Manager to join our Global Logistics organization. This role is pivotal in designing and implementing innovative packaging and shipping solutions that improve trailer and container utilization, reduce transportation costs, and ensure full compliance with safety and quality standards. The Logistics Engineering Manager will play a key role in advancing our Global Load Factor Improvement program.

Responsibilities include optimizing trailer and container utilization, improving material handling practices, and documenting the best operational practices across the global logistics network, with a targeted improvement toward 80% container utilization.

This role will leverage data from manufacturing sites, freight forwarders, 3PLs, and suppliers to identify trends, diagnose underutilized lanes and origins, and develop decision-support tools. The manager will also drive cross-functional collaboration to address systemic and operational gaps, standardize pallet configurations, and optimize packaging solutions. Additionally, this leader will track and report site-level improvements, maintain centralized content within our global community, and produce executive-ready performance summaries to support strategic logistics decision-making.

• Design and implement packaging and shipping solutions that maximize trailer utilization, streamline material handling, and reduce transportation costs across 3M’s global logistics network.
• Document and standardize shipping and receiving procedures using industry best practices for global deployment and operational consistency.
• Partner with logistics operations, distribution centers, 3PLs, manufacturing, and procurement teams to ensure seamless integration of packaging solutions into end-to-end supply chain processes.
• Develop, document, and deploy LCL to FCL best practices, including standardized playbooks, RACIs, and governance models to enable consistent execution across regions, sites, and logistics partners.
• Execute LCL to FCL conversion strategies in top manufacturing sites, DCs, and consolidation centers, ensuring operational readiness, adherence to governance, and measurable conversion results.
• Ensure all packaging solutions meet internal and external standards for safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Analyze logistics loading processes—creating, decking, bracing/dunnage, and returnable—to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
• Define and standardize loading and unloading equipment requirements to support effective material handling across all global sites.
• Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to logistics packaging efficiency and global load factor performance.
• Reports to Global Logistics, ensuring strategic alignment across cross-functional teams, facilitating container and trailer utilization.
• Leverages Power BI analytics to identify trends, underutilized nodes and lanes, and drive continuous improvement in Load Factor Metrics (LFM), with a goal of improving baseline performance to an 80% utilization rate.
