The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Product Engineer for 3M’s Abrasive Systems Division, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. You will make an impact by:
- Optimizing products by driving Product and Process Understanding (PPU) efforts, leading strategic raw material substitution projects and supporting cost reduction projects
- Ensuring consistent product performance and stability of existing products by leading product improvement projects as needed
- Maintaining product standards and specifications, owning claims substantiation process
- Leading or supporting change management processes and validating product performance for changes in formulation, process or raw materials
- Driving scale-up activities as a core team member for new product introductions
- Developing and implementing product control plans
- Collaborating with cross functional teams (product development, application engineering, business, manufacturing and quality teams), global laboratories and manufacturing sites
- Utilizing strong communication skills to inspire, influence, motivate and teach other team members
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
- Experience in manufacturing and/or process or product engineering in a private, public, government or military environment
- Current, valid Driver’s License
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution
- Two (2) combined years experience gathering product information and/or setting specifications and/or developing test methods and/or translating to product requirements in a private, public, government or military environment
- Experience working in Quality and/or Manufacturing/Production and/or Product Development and/or Engineering in a private, public, government or military environment
- Experience with scaling up technology and/or products to large scale manufacturing
- Prioritization
Skills:
ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects with critical deadlines - Experience with Lean Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DOE), and Statistical Analysis
- Ability to navigate through ambiguity and change
Work location: On-site at 3M Center in Maplewood, MN (minimum four days per week).
Travel: Up to 30% domestic
