The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical professional to join our Finance team as an Accountant
2. Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, the Accountant 2 performs complex accounting work with a primary focus on the City’s tangible capital assets and/or capital project tracking. This position plays a critical role in supporting the accuracy, transparency, and effectiveness of the City’s financial practices.
- Involvement in various accounting functions with a focus on accurate tracking of capital assets.
- Act as a business partner and financial resource to City departments.
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations and financial reports as needed.
- Analyze variances between budgeted and actual costs; prepare and post general ledger adjustments.
- Prepare financial reports and submissions to external agencies.
- Recommend and support improvements to internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Participate in City initiatives as needed.
- May provide guidance and mentorship to junior finance staff.
- Completion of intermediate-level courses toward a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, supported by post-secondary coursework in accounting or finance.
- 3–5 years of experience in a similar accounting or finance role, preferably in a municipal or complex environment.
- Considerable knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and procedures.
- Sound understanding of financial systems and accounting software.
Skills and Abilities
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to build strong working relationships across departments and external partners.
