POSITION OVERVIEWThe City of Maple Ridge is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technologist to join our dynamic project management team. In this role, you will manage a wide range of municipal infrastructure projects, including roads and bridges, storm and sanitary sewers, waterworks, and civic facilities. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered technologist or recently graduated engineer to apply expertise to a variety of projects, provide guidance to internal teams, and liaise with developers, contractors, and the public.
InThis Role You Will:
- Plan, schedule, and administer municipal capital projects and programs, including cost estimates, budgets, and technical reports.
- Prepare, review, and approve designs, drawings, and plans for municipal infrastructure, ensuring compliance with standards and bylaws.
- Prepare and manage Requests for Proposals (RFPs), evaluate consultant submissions, and oversee contract administration.
- Review subdivision, development, rezoning, and building permit applications to ensure compliance with municipal regulations.
- Conduct site inspections, monitor construction progress, and investigate issues related to grading, drainage, soil stability, and erosion control.
- Provide technical guidance and advice to internal departments, developers, contractors, and the public.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to municipal projects and applications.
- Assist in the development and updating of municipal policies, procedures, and infrastructure planning initiatives.
- Utilize CAD, GIS, and other engineering software to support planning, design, and analysis tasks.
Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Engineering Technology or related discipline, plus considerable related municipal experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Considerable knowledge of municipal design, engineering standards and land servicing requirements, including relevant bylaws, policies, regulations and permitting processes.
- Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the design, construction and installation of municipal utilities such as roads, water, stormwater and sanitary systems, including soil mechanics, stabilization and erosion control.
- Sound knowledge of engineering practices and the interpretation of engineering plans, specifications, contract documents and related technical data.
- Sound knowledge of engineering and mapping software including CAD and GIS computerized mapping principles, techniques and related software.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply municipal bylaws, subdivision and zoning regulations, the BC Building Code and other relevant legislation such as the Local Government Act and Community Charter.
- Ability to plan, research, develop, schedule, and administer capital and development infrastructure projects, including preparing cost estimates, managing budgets and coordinating tendering processes, while ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to prepare, review and interpret engineering designs, plans, and technical drawings for accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Ability to analyze infrastructure capacities, evaluate development impacts and prepare detailed reports with recommendations.
- Ability to provide technical advice, direction and interpretation of engineering and land development requirements to developers, contractors, consultants, municipal staff and the public and to effectively address inquiries and concerns.
- Ability to review subdivision, development, rezoning and building permit applications for compliance with municipal bylaws, grading requirements and engineering standards.
