- Assists in all facets of building, corrective, demand, and preventive maintenance at Waterloo Region Housing and corporate buildings throughout Waterloo Region.
- Completes maintenance and restoration duties on all buildings (under supervision).
- Performs maintenance tasks including renovation and rejuvenation of existing structures, new construction, general site cleanup, landscaping, parking lot repairs, fencing repairs, and unit renovation and cleanup.
- Uses riding or hand mower, trimmer, and hand tools to mow, weed, trim, and rake lawns throughout the growing season. Performs other landscaping duties such as seeding, sodding, erosion control blanket, pulling weeds, trimming and edging beds, shovelling, raking, pruning, trimming trees back, and watering vegetation.
- Assists to carry out rough and finish carpentry, drywall and plaster repairs, flooring replacement, maintenance to ceiling systems, hardware maintenance, glazing and caulking repairs, and steel stud construction.
- Delivers building notices as needed.
- Works in all areas of the site, including cleaning and assisting in the maintenance workshop.
- Prolonged stooping and kneeling are required when repairing and painting floors and stairs, performing repairs and replacement, and working in cramped quarters.
- Uses step ladders.
- Works outdoors and in buildings.
- Lifts/carries materials weighing up to 22 kg/50 lbs, with assistance as required.
- Travels daily between locations.
- Follows health and safety policies and procedures and wears appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., safety boots, safety glasses and gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, fall‑arrest equipment, reflective vest) to mitigate risks associated with dust, noise, machinery operation, construction equipment, hazardous materials, weather, vibrations, and slippery surfaces.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of and experience with building operation and maintenance standards.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related legislation.
- Communication skills to interact with co‑workers, tenants, and site visitors, and participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to read and understand instructions, reports, and safety datasheets.
- Must have a valid G driver’s license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and acceptable driving record to operate corporate vehicles.
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
