Dangerous Goods Transportation Analyst

Job DescriptionAs a Dangerous Goods Transportation Analyst, you will support dangerous goods transportation regulatory compliance activities to ensure 3M shipments comply with national and international regulations. The position supports daily U.S. and global operations, SAP/ERP deployments, and dangerous goods management solutions during a period of business transformation and implementation of globally harmonized policies.

Here, You Will Make An Impact By- Support the global product stewardship strategy and dangerous goods team strategy to assure alignment across 3M organizations
- Provide subject matter expertise in dangerous goods regulations and transportation processes to support business operations and key strategic initiatives
- Perform analysis of dangerous goods regulations, leveraging rulings and internal/external advice across 3M’s complex diversity of products and supply chain
- Ensure domestic and international shipment compliance with applicable DG/HAZMAT regulations (e.g., UN MR, 49 CFR, IATA/ICAO, IMDG, ADR) and internal policies
- Partner with global transportation, operations, and business leads to identify DG compliance gaps and implement corrective actions
- Support internal audits and risk assessments of DG transportation activities to ensure regulatory adherence and continuous improvement
- Assist with development, revision, and communication of DG policies, procedures, and compliance tools to internal stakeholders
- Provide regulatory interpretation and support for DG transportation
- Evaluate products/materials against regulatory criteria to determine correct DG classification and transportation requirements, including review of technical data (e.g., test results, SDS, formulation)
- Maintain classification records, audit classifications for accuracy, and ensure documentation supports regulatory requirements
- Monitor regulatory updates and advise internal teams on impacts to classification and compliance processes
- Collaborate with product stewardship and technical SMEs to validate classification conclusions and resolve complex regulatory questions
- Support global SAP/ERP DG master data and compliance systems, including data integrity and process improvements
- Assist with development and implementation of DG or hazardous materials management systems and tools that support compliance
- Assist with development and delivery of training on DG requirements for operational and support teams
- Serve as a resource for regulatory questions from business partners across functions and regions
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
- High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 8 years of experience in supply chain (in lieu of a bachelor’s degree)
- Two years experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data queries, extracts, and analysis
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, environmental, health, safety, regulatory, chemistry, or information technology - Minimum of three years of combined experience in environmental, health, safety and/or transportation regulatory and compliance, manufacturing, R&D, supply chain, IT, logistics, or trade compliance
- Experience with dangerous goods regulations (49 CFR, UN Model Regulations, IATA, ICAO, IMDG, ADR, TDG, etc.)
- Experience with systems such as CDMS, GGSM, SAP, FCS
- Experience leading and collaborating with cross‑functional teams, including remote teams
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to influence multiple levels of a large organization
- Working knowledge of end‑to‑end supply chain processes in SAP for DG functions (DG master data, TM system, BOL and EDI generation)
4 days onsite in Maplewood, MN with one flex day, or another 3M site location.
TravelMay include up to 5% domestic/international travel.
