Part-time position, $40/hr

Primary Responsibilities

• Safe transport of authorized students to and from athletic events and other assigned school activities.
• Adherence to established routes, schedules, and trip assignments.
• Ensuring all students have exited the bus at the conclusion of each route or trip.
• Compliance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws and mandatory school bus safety regulations.
• Adherence to all safety procedures during student loading and unloading.
• Completion of required training and implementation of accommodations when transporting students with disabilities.
• Assistance to students with disabilities when boarding and exiting the bus when no bus attendant is assigned.
• Maintenance of student discipline to ensure safety, order, and protection of district property.

Reporting and Compliance

• Immediate reporting of all accidents, incidents, or student injuries to the Athletic Director, School Principal, and School Business Administrator, and completion of all required documentation.
• Assumption of responsibility for any fines or court costs incurred as a result of traffic violations and attendance at mandated driving safety classes if ordered by the court.
• Compliance with district and state policies regarding cell phone use; cell phones may only be used when the bus is safely parked, engine off, and out of gear.

Vehicle Care and Maintenance

• Daily interior cleaning ensuring the bus is clean and presentable.
• Cleaning windows and exterior surfaces as needed and refueling the vehicle.
• Identification and reporting of mechanical issues; minor troubleshooting when appropriate.
• Ensuring the vehicle is left in safe operating condition following each assignment.

Additional Duties

• Performing other related duties as assigned by the Business Administrator.

Qualifications

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• Minimum safe driving experience as determined by the Board of Education and the NJDOE.
• Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and short‑notice assignments.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain order and ensure student safety.
• Basic mechanical aptitude to identify minor vehicle issues.
• Successful completion of required criminal history background check.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.
• Ability to meet the physical and health requirements of the position, with reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and N.J.A.C. 6A:3-4A.4.
• Successful completion of the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test, as applicable.
• Bilingual ability (English/Spanish), both oral and written, preferred.

Experience

• Prior experience as a school bus driver is preferred.
• Experience transporting students or working in a school district setting is strongly preferred.
