Shift: 1 (Monday - Friday, 1st shift. Flexibility with start and end of shift to meet business needs)
Job Summary:To facilitate culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.
Experience:- Minimum of 1 year experience in providing medical interpreting to Deaf and hard of hearing patients in a professional setting is required.
- 3 years of directly related experience preferred.
- Experience at a Level I Trauma Center is preferred.
- Certification recognized by RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) is required.
- A Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience is required for certification as an ASL interpreter.
- Bilingual in English and the language to be interpreted.
- Solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms.
- Ability to interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, preventive care, and be culturally competent.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
- Formal interpreter training preferred.
- Proven medical interpreting experience preferred.
- State of Wisconsin, Department of Safety and Professional Services license is required.
- RID certification is required.
