To facilitate culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.
Experience- A minimum of 1 year of experience in providing medical interpreting in English and the target language is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is preferred.
- Experience at a Level I Trauma Center is preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in related field is preferred.
- Professional Medical Interpreter Program is preferred.
- Must be bilingual in English and the target language, solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms.
- Strong ability to interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, preventive care, and be culturally competent.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, families, and health care providers.
- Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
- Ability to produce written translations of material such as forms, documents, patient letters, and other material.
- Travel between locations during shift is required.
- Formal interpreter training: 40‑hour medical interpretation training program.
CCHI or NBCMI Certification is preferred.
