The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS' Division of Policy, Planning and Measurement (PPM) collaborates with every ACS division to bring knowledge to practice. PPM guides systems analysis and strategic systems improvement; assures quality of practice at ACS and its provider agencies; professionalizes the front-line workforce; brings knowledge into practice; provides research and analytic support; and plans and develops new programs and policies.

Within PPM, the ACS Workforce Institute provides career-long professional skills development and continuous learning opportunities for child welfare and juvenile justice direct service staff and supervisors, and its many partner agencies. The ACS Workforce Institute is a partnership between ACS and the City University of New York's School of Professional Studies and Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work. Since its launch in 2016, the ACS Workforce Institute has developed more than 50 instructor-led trainings and e-learnings, and taught more than 12,000 direct service staff and supervisors in the child welfare and juvenile justice sectors.

PPM is seeking 1 highly motivated and detail-oriented Workforce Institute Graduate Intern to join our team.

As a Workforce Institute Graduate Intern, you will support day-to-day operations of the ACS Workforce Institute team tasked with providing financial support and continuous professional development opportunities for ACS employees who are committed to working in New York City's child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care and education services. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a self-starter who is interested in educating child welfare and juvenile justice direct service staff and supervisors.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist the Professional Development Program (PDP) team with administrative duties, including daily tasks and events (e.g. celebrations, professional development day, orientations, college fairs)

* Support the PDP team with completing participation reports, including preparing a spreadsheet of participants for past years and the upcoming academic year

* Contribute as a PDP thought partner in weekly planning meetings

* Collaborate with PDP team to prepare for and attend in-person "Meet & Greets" for incoming interns at ACS Borough Offices

* Assist with registration, data collection and reporting, and responding to inquiries received in the PDP on-line mailbox

* Attend and support off-site, in-person events/trainings, as needed

Learning Outcomes:

* Gain hands-on experience coordinating professional development opportunities for staff in a government organization

* Develop skills in collaborating across teams towards desired outcomes

* Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing organizational tasks

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.

Preferred Skills

* A flexible team player who works well with others and is always willing to support the team, as needed - Strong interpersonal and communication skills (writing and verbal) - Detail-oriented with organization, time management, and problem-solving skills - Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
