Position: Charge Nurse (RN)
Summary

Employee is required to direct, administer, and record the care given to residents in this facility. The Charge Nurse reports to the Director of Nursing.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Communicate with family members regarding the progress of the resident.
  • Assist visiting physicians in rounds, if required.
  • Draw blood and obtain fluids for lab work, if required.
  • Record and monitor residents' progress and communicate with physicians according to facility policies.
  • Assist in dining areas and with feeding, if required.
  • Supervise other nursing staff to ensure thoroughness and assist with tasks as needed.
  • Use telephones to communicate with physicians, arrange transportation for appointments, and contact families.
  • Make rounds to ensure cleanliness and proper care of residents.
  • Coordinate residents' care according to their care plans.
  • Manage nursing staff effectively.
  • Complete various reports as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all State and federal requirements, including blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety.
  • Ensure compliance with residents' rights.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered and timely, following facility policies and schedules.
  • Replace nursing staff who call in sick with additional staff or assist in providing nursing services when staffing is insufficient.
Requirements
  • Valid Kansas nursing license in good standing.
  • Basic computer skills; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays, when necessary.
  • Ability to assist in evacuations during emergencies.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Use of transfer/gait belt or assistance from another employee when lifting or carrying objects over 25 pounds.
  • This is a supervisory role. Employee must handle staff effectively and may perform other duties within their training and ability. The employer may modify this job description as needed.
