Position: Vice President for Development

The Vice President for Development serves as a senior leader responsible for advancing GMCF’s philanthropic mission through strategic fund development, donor engagement, and community partnership. This position provides direction and oversight for major gift strategies, planned giving, campaign initiatives, and donor stewardship efforts that strengthen GMCF’s impact across the region.

Working closely with GMCF senior leadership, the Vice President for Development leads the design and execution of fundraising strategies that connect donor passions with community needs, helping to build the charitable resources that sustain and grow GMCF’s programs and priorities.

The Vice President for Development position is a Full-time, exempt position that reports to the President & CEO.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Philanthropy and Fund Development
  • Lead strategic development initiatives that grow GMCF’s assets and expand community impact.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors, helping them fulfill their philanthropic goals through a menu of charitable giving vehicles.
  • Provide philanthropic advice and planning strategies to individuals, families, businesses, and advisors,
  • Identify and pursue major and planned gift opportunities that align with GMCF’s mission and priorities.
  • Maintain a current understanding of trends and best practices in community philanthropy, charitable planning, and nonprofit fund development.
Community and Donor Engagement
  • Represents GMCF in the community through meetings, presentations, and events that promote awareness of philanthropy.
  • Build partnerships with professional advisors, foundations, and corporations to strengthen giving opportunities and expand philanthropic participation.
  • Coordinate special initiatives and campaign efforts in collaboration with the President & CEO.
  • Communicate effectively with fund holders, donors, and nonprofits regarding GMCF services, programs, and giving opportunities.
  • Serve as a visible GMCF ambassador, building trust and confidence for excellence and impact.
Strategic Planning and Leadership
  • Contribute to organizational planning and goal setting, ensuring alignment between fundraising strategy and GMCF’s mission.
  • Support the President & CEO in cultivating major donors and strategic partners.
  • Work with the GMCF Board of Directors to identify, engage, and steward philanthropic leadership.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of community needs to guide GMCF’s development priorities.
  • Participate as a regular voice for GMCF through communications, presentations, and media outreach.
Administration and Collaboration
  • Partner closely with GMCF colleagues to support development and revenue goals across programs.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and ensure confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Monitor compliance with GMCF policies, National Standards, and IRS charitable regulations.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership support to staff involved in development or communications functions.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in fundraising, philanthropy, or nonprofit management.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with donors, advisors, and community leaders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree and five years professional experience in philanthropy, development, or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Manhattan community and surrounding region.
  • Experience in community foundation or comparable philanthropic settings.
  • Knowledge of charitable gift planning, endowment building, and donor stewardship best practices.
