As an Environmental Protection Specialist you are responsible for providing oversight and technical consultation on all environmental, health, safety and security issues with the goal of providing and ensuring a safe and healthful environment at the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF).
Responsibilities- The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
- The duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure compliance with environmental issues that directly affect regulatory compliance, the health and safety of personnel, and the well-being of the surrounding community.
- Ensures that potential deficiencies are effectively and immediately addressed.
- Participates in and assists in implementing environmental management directives and policies as detailed in Executive Order 13834.
- Leader of the program Environmental Management System (EMS) Committee and ensures the EMS program is implemented using ISO 14001 standards.
- Creates databases, spreadsheets and organizational systems as needed to ensure immediate access to environmental compliance records and documents.
- Tracks environmental permits issued to the program to ensure adherence to the monitoring, record keeping, and reporting requirements.
- Prepares reports in accordance with permit requirements ensuring that data contained therein is accurate and complete.
- Works with State and Local environmental laws, regulations and ordinances, federal Executive Orders and departmental and agency environmental plans and policies.
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served. Refer to the Next Steps section for more information.

- Testing Designated Position:
Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use. - Valid state driver's license is required at the time of application.
