Assistant Professor

Kansas State University is seeking applicants for a 9-month tenure track assistant professor working in applications of artificial intelligence and computer vision to agricultural machinery and precision agriculture.

About This Role

The Carl and Melinda Helwig Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Kansas State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position with the rank of assistant professor with expertise in application of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision applied to agricultural machine and sensor development and precision agriculture. This is a critical area of expertise for developing new sensing systems involving computer vision and artificial intelligence to realize next-generation solutions for manned and autonomous systems.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team housed within the Institute of Digital Agriculture and Advanced Analytics (ID3A). ID3A’s efforts include integrating digital technologies, i.e., sensors and robotics, with artificial intelligence, as well as fostering analytical and visualization systems to enable producers to make more rapid and informed decisions. Additionally, they work to train future producers and researchers on how to use these technologies and methods to yield data-informed decisions.

Ultimately, they aim to strengthen the collective effort toward solving some of the most pressing food, water, energy and environmental issues both in Kansas and around the world.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs within the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering by teaching courses related to instrumentation, sensors, controls and machine design.
