Position: Adolescent Therapist
Schedule: Full Time, Days
Position SummaryThe Adolescent Clinical Therapist provides comprehensive, developmentally appropriate behavioral health services to adolescents in an inpatient setting. This role collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team, including case managers, nursing staff, and Milieu Specialists, to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment and high-quality patient care. The therapist is responsible for conducting assessments, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, facilitating individual and group therapy sessions, and engaging families in the treatment process.
Additionally, the therapist ensures compliance with facility policies and accreditation standards, maintains accurate documentation, and demonstrates ethical, professional conduct while supporting the overall clinical and operational goals of the program.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Patient Care
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and patient staffing, providing information to guide patient care and maintain daily goals and modifications.
- Meet weekly / monthly as required with the treatment team to provide input on patient care and progress. Coordinate services, communicate with family members and outside agencies, arrange services, and support discharge planning.
- Collaborate with nursing and Milieu Specialists to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, monitor adolescent behaviors, and adhere to seclusion/restraint protocols when necessary.
- Provide developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions, including individual and group sessions tailored to adolescents.
- Engage families and guardians in psychoeducation and treatment planning to support continuity of care.
- Complete initial psychosocial assessments within 72 hours, analyze collected data, and develop the initial ISP/Treatment Plan (Discharge Plan) within three days. Present goals to patients, families, and agency representatives, obtain signatures, and provide copies.
- Patient Safety & Behavioral Health
- Ensure patients receive appropriate program activities and interventions, addressing both behavioral and medical needs in collaboration with the treatment team.
- Monitor for safety risks, self-harm, aggression, or impulsive behaviors, responding effectively and using crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Maintain a safe and structured environment that supports therapeutic engagement and emotional regulation for adolescents.
- Professional Development & Training
- Participate in activities that enhance professional growth and development.
- Attend all mandatory training and maintain up-to-date documentation of certifications and licenses with Human Resources.
- Independently seek training opportunities and recommend organizational training initiatives. Stay current on evidence-based adolescent behavioral health practices.
- Ethics, Conduct & Confidentiality
- Demonstrate conduct in keeping with ethical standards, maintaining proper boundaries with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Maintain confidentiality of current and former patient information, as well as internal organizational information.
- Serve as a role model for employees through exemplary professional behavior.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure clinical programming, staffing ratios, and documentation comply with facility policies and accreditation standards, including DNV and HIPAA.
- Maintain timely and accurate completion of behavioral health assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Keep department managers informed of serious incidents, allegations, or operational issues related to program safety, patient care, or personnel. Attend departmental meetings consistently and on time.
- Judgment & Operational Oversight
- Demonstrate sound judgment, resolve problems promptly, and ensure clinical and operational systems related to patient care are followed and updated as needed.
- Support the delivery of safe, clinically appropriate, and high-quality care in all areas of the adolescent program.
