Responsibilities
  • The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Demonstrates expert level experience as a certified nursing assistant and assists other staff as needed.
  • Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Deliver age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan.
  • Follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use. Work as a support to other clinical staff and lead in problem solving and maintaining high accountability.
  • Assist with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care.
  • Assist residents with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
  • Support dining activities: food preparation, dining experience, assisting with meals and snacks, and providing water and supplements as appropriate.
  • Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed; document resident interactions and outcomes; communicate changes in condition and care concerns to the charge nurse.
  • Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and record vital signs. Provide housekeeping and laundry services to keep living areas clean and functional.
  • Support wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation. May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed.
  • May be responsible for tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program (including documentation, scheduling and leading restorative programs).
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16. Two years' clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually. Maintains all department specific required certifications.
  • May be required to complete the Restorative Nursing training within 6 months.
  • When applicable, for applicable states, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
  • Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license. Also must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per our Sanford Driving Policy per the leaders request.
