Software Engineer; Backend​/Distributed Systems

Overview

Manchester City Centre (Deansgate) – In-person, 5 days per week. Full-time. Salary between £35, (dependent on experience and skill set).

We’re hiring a Junior–Mid Level Backend Software Engineer to help us build and scale critical proxy infrastructure used by web-scraping, automation, and agentic AI companies worldwide. We support thousands of customers across 200+ countries, process 15+ billion proxy requests per month, and handle petabytes of data flowing through our network. We’ve grown bootstrapped to $2M ARR with +318% YoY platform sign-up growth — and we’re just getting started.

This is a fast-paced, high-ownership startup environment. We move quickly, ship frequently, and expect engineers to learn fast, take responsibility, and work hard to deliver production-ready systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience with distributed systems, high-performance Go services, API development, payments infrastructure, and production-scale backend engineering.

• Build APIs using Flask and FastAPI
• Develop backend services in Go and/or Python
• Contribute to high-performance systems powering proxy routing and log ingestion
• Ship API features quickly in a fast feedback loop
• Work with Postgres, Redis, and Kafka
• Help improve reliability, observability, and system performance
• Deploy services using Docker, Kubernetes, and Linux infrastructure

• Must have
• 1–5 years experience with Go and/or Python
• Experience building APIs with Flask or FastAPI
• Experience with Postgres
• Familiarity with Git, Docker
• Linux basics
• Interest in backend architecture and distributed systems
• Comfortable working in-person in Manchester, 5 days per week
• Strong ownership mindset

• Nice to have
• Stripe or billing system experience
• Kafka / Redis exposure
• Kubernetes familiarity
• Experience with infrastructure or networking systems
• Prometheus / tracing experience

Willingness to relocate in the future is a plus. We plan to relocate our head office to London within the next few years, and compensation would be reassessed as part of any relocation.
