About us

Do you want to join an exciting and dynamic team? This is an additional role to enhance our current support offer to local young people.

This role sits within the Skills and Work team, which provides strategic, operational and commissioning support to Salford young people and residents. Our vision is to provide clear pathways for residents to develop the skills and experience they need to progress into quality and sustainable careers. We do this by focusing on solutions to address barriers for residents participating in education, employment and training.

This role is additional to one other existing Transition Mentor in the team.

About the Role

Reporting into a Policy and Development Officer, you will play a key role in providing a professional and supportive role to Salford’s young people by directly supporting a cohort of young people who are at risk of NEET (not in Education, Employment or Training) or who are already NEET, and who need additional support via mentoring to engage in positive post‑16 education, employment and training destinations.

Approaching the role with a positive mindset you will:

  • Embed a solution‑focused attitude to engage young people and their families
  • Be tenacious in supporting young people to recognise their barriers to participation and help them develop innovative solutions
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and design of the team goals and activities to further drive outcomes for young people
  • Develop strong partnerships across multiple partners, advocate for young people and work towards a “whole system” approach to supporting young people at key transition points
About you

We are seeking a creative individual who wants to make a difference through:

  • Developing effective and supportive relationships with young people and families to motivate and inspire them
  • Modelling the Salford City Council core values and behaviours
  • Building strong multi‑agency relationships and communicating effectively
  • Having experience in a mentoring, counselling or related field
  • Working on their own initiative to develop solutions in partnership with others
