Senior / Principal Ecologist – Arup
Join Arup’s northern office network (York, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow Edinburgh) on a permanent contract. Work alongside 45 experienced ecologists across projects ranging Gry Renewable Energy

, Transport and Data Centres

- Prepare clear, concise reports:
Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), species survey reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Appraisals (HRA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments. - Lead projects that use nature‑based solutions to achieve biodiversity gain and climate resilience, advising on restoration, habitat redesign and green infrastructure integration.
- Implement natural‑capital and environmental net‑gain strategies, including BNG, Building with Nature and other metrics.
- Conduct field surveys:
Phase 1 Habitat/UK Hab surveys (including condition scoring and invasive species monitoring) and protected species surveys (bats, otters, badgers) under licence agreements. - Mentor junior staff, fostering professional development and a collaborative team culture.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Zoology, Geography, Biology or equivalent. - Post‑graduate qualification (MSc in Ecological Consultancy or similar) advantageous.
- Membership of CIEEM or equivalent professional body; progressing toward Chartered status encouraged.
- Full driving licence.
- Consulting industry experience with a broad range of ecological work; client‑facing exposure.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS and other digital tools for efficient project delivery.
