Computational Biologist

  • Starting salary in the range: £35,000 - £50,000 (dependent upon experience) per annum.

About the role

The Computational Biology Support Team is closely linked to the core facilities within the CRUK Manchester Institute, operating advanced genomics technologies such as Illumina deep sequencing, mass spectrometry, and advanced imaging. This role supports the experimental design, validation, pre‑processing, analysis and interpretation of datasets generated by these facilities, and delivers analysis services to research groups across the Institute.

Responsibilities
  • Design and validate experimental workflows for high‑throughput multi‑omics data.
  • Pre‑process, analyse and interpret datasets from sequencing, mass spectrometry and imaging platforms.
  • Provide computational biology support and analysis services to research groups.
  • Collaborate with core facility staff and scientific computing teams.
  • Utilise the on‑site High Performance Computing Facility to run large‑scale analyses.
About you
  • A degree or postgraduate degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in analysing high‑throughput multi‑omics data sets.
  • Optional PhD in Computational Biology (desirable).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build networks.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the capacity to prioritise and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
