Overview

The purpose of a Quality Inspector / Controller is to ensure that products and services meet specific standards of quality and functionality, ensuring that defined company processes and project quality documentation are delivered and adhered to throughout all business activities.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Ability to use a variety of inspection equipment provided by the business (e.g., CMM arms, micrometres, verniers)
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, procedures, and work instructions
  • A good understanding of manufacturing tolerances and industry standards
  • Knowledge of materials and properties
  • Execute quality processes and procedures, report quality variances to the Quality Manager
  • Collaborate to ensure quality processes and inspection methods are fit for purpose
  • Provide feedback and participate in Continuous Improvement (e.g., lessons learned)
  • Monitor and control calibrated items and verification tools at all sites
  • Ensure all inspected components are identified and traceable back to purchase orders / project numbers at all times
  • Ensure incoming goods (including kits) are correct prior to release to manufacture with correct documentation and certification as noted within the purchase order; action rejection of any defective products in a timely manner
  • Ensure certification received is correct and identified with company order numbers to maintain traceability (Mill Certificates, CoCs) and passed to the quality department promptly
  • Visit vendors as necessary to inspect components within the supply chain
  • Identify and document defects, deviations, and non-conformities in products
  • Conduct various tests and measurements to assess product quality (e.g., dimensional checks, visual inspections, functional tests) using equipment such as CMM arms, micrometres, verniers
  • Log required Quality Control information as per defined requirements using methods such as My Compliance, MRP (Progress Plus), written formats and other relevant software
  • Conduct regular checks on kits / components prior to issue to ensure accuracy and record anomalies
  • Assist in the production of Quality Control inspection plans and routings
  • Carry out inspections on internally produced components (e.g., stock items, laser cut plates, pressed sections)
  • Ensure quality control inspections are carried out as detailed in quality processes, plans, inspection and test plans, routings and other controlling documents
  • Perform dimensional and visual inspection of shop fabrications during all stages, including welds
  • Record and maintain fabrication quality records (e.g., in-process traveller / route cards) and check conformity with fabrication drawings, project specifications and applicable codes
  • Ensure NDT inspections are carried out as required and reports are received and passed to the Quality Department in a timely manner
  • Ensure all products and services are defect-free, fabricated accurately, and conform to industry standard quality tolerances, company standards, and project/MITP requirements
  • Visually inspect surface treatments; liaise with paint applicators to address quality issues promptly
  • Verify finished goods meet requirements, are undamaged, and are packed correctly with appropriate photographic evidence
  • Ensure required documentation at despatch is with the product
  • Liaise with client inspection teams to verify products
  • Produce and maintain non-conformance reports (NCRs) and assist with root cause investigations
  • Participate in project close-out / lessons learned reviews
  • Recognise health and safety responsibilities and comply with company policies
  • Monitor contents and life of CoSHH cupboard at all sites
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills
  • Certified licences to use the following: site-approved FLTs, overhead cranes
  • Apprentice-trained or experienced in a similar environment
  • Ability to select the correct inspection equipment relative to the task
  • Strong written and IT skills (incl. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Communication skills across all levels of internal and external business
Hours of Work

Monday to Thursday; 37 hours per week on days
