This local, independent charity – part of a well-established national charity network – is dedicated to improving the lives and wellbeing of older people within its community. As a local branch of a national organisation, the charity combines national expertise with strong local knowledge to deliver practical, emotional, and social support that helps older people live independently, safely, and with dignity.
The organisation provides services that reduce loneliness, promote independence, offer advice and advocacy, and help older people navigate later life with confidence. At the heart of its work is a commitment to ensuring that older people are valued, heard, supported, and empowered within their communities.
With an ageing population and increasing pressure on public services, the role of this charity has never been more vital. It works closely with partners across health, social care, local government, and the voluntary sector to address emerging needs and deliver sustainable, community-based solutions.
The RoleThe charity is seeking to appoint a Trustee / Treasurer to join its Board. This is a key governance role, combining the general responsibilities of a Charity Trustee with specific oversight of the charity’s financial affairs.
- Act in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries.
- Contribute to strategic direction and decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with charity regulatory requirements.
- Attend Board meetings, committees, and planning events.
- Work within governance rules and provide constructive challenge.
- Oversee the financial affairs of the charity.
- Act as a bank signatory.
- Monitor and report on financial health with the CEO and Finance Officer.
- Oversee annual budgeting and ensure Trustees understand financial reports.
- Ensure annual audits and financial reports are presented at the AGM.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities.
- Resides within the local region of Greater Manchester, preferably around the Tameside area.
- Genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people.
- Understanding of issues impacting older populations.
- Working knowledge of accounting and charity finance.
- Ability to present financial information clearly.
- Understanding of charity governance.
- Strong judgement and decision-making skills.
- Three Board meetings per year.
This is a voluntary role. Reasonable, pre-agreed expenses will be reimbursed in line with the charity’s expenses policy.
