The Campaign and Events team sits at the heart of the Corporate Affairs division and tells the story of the BBC’s role in society and its impact as we look towards a new Charter, to both external and internal audiences.
This dedicated, proactive team leads the division’s strategic and integrated campaigns around our three roles: pursuing the truth, backing homegrown storytelling and bringing people together – as well as amplifying our impact and commitment to key regions across the UK.
The Head of Communications - Campaigns will lead the proactive team in shaping and delivering high-impact, integrated campaigns that bring the BBC’s public purpose to life.

YourKey Responsibilities And Impact
- Lead and inspire the Campaigns team, ensuring delivery of high-impact, creative and integrated campaigns that align with BBC strategy and uphold its public purpose.
- Design and oversee the planning, execution and evaluation of priority campaigns across platforms – including media, events, digital and internal engagement – built around the BBC’s core roles: pursuing the truth, backing homegrown storytelling, and bringing people together.
- Champion regional impact – ensuring campaigns reflect and amplify the BBC’s commitment to communities across the UK, with relevance and resonance at a local level.
- Collaboration – working closely with teams across the Corporate Affairs division and the wider BBC to ensure joined‑up, insight‑led campaigns with measurable outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement – embedding best practice in campaign delivery, measurement and editorial compliance, while fostering innovation, creativity and alignment with BBC Values.
Essential Criteria
- Proven track record in leading and delivering strategic, multi‑platform campaigns across publicity, media relations, internal communications or journalism.
- Strong leadership experience with a history of managing and motivating high‑performing teams and using resources effectively to deliver impact.
- Creative and editorial flair with the ability to craft compelling narratives, write engaging copy and manage reputational issues with confidence.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills able to build trust and influence across senior leaders, journalists, external stakeholders and editorial teams.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of communications strategy and tools, including audience insight, social media, AI applications and campaign evaluation techniques.
- Experience in public service broadcasting or similar sectors, with an understanding of regional communications and community engagement, as well as managing reputational issues.
- Familiarity with campaign evaluation tools, audience insight platforms, and digital analytics, combined with a passion for storytelling, inclusion, and the BBC’s public purpose.
