Monday–Friday, 7:00am – 5:00pm
Wheeldon Brothers Waste LTD is a long-established waste management company operating multiple sites across Greater Manchester. We run a range of plant and machinery to support our recycling operations at our Bury yard. We are looking for a reliable and skilled Plant Mechanic to join our team.
Role OverviewAs a Plant Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing a variety of heavy plant and yard machinery used across the site. You will play a key role in keeping operations running efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out planned maintenance, servicing, and repairs on plant equipment (e.g., loading shovels, telehandlers, grabs, forklifts, yard machinery).
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
- Respond to breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime.
- Ensure all machinery is safe, compliant, and operating effectively.
- Conduct routine inspections and record findings accurately.
- Work closely with site managers and operators to identify issues early.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
- Source parts when required and assist with stock control.
- Follow all company safety procedures and site rules.
- Previous experience as a Plant Mechanic, Heavy Plant Fitter, or similar role.
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical knowledge.
- Ability to diagnose and repair faults independently.
- Competent working with yard and plant machinery.
- NVQ or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience working in waste management or recycling environments.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Competitive hourly rate (£16–£20 depending on experience).
- Consistent daytime hours, Monday to Friday.
