Production Manager, Manufacturing Engineer
Our client, based in the South Manchester/East Cheshire area near Hazel Grove, is looking for an experienced Production Manager with a CNC background.
They are looking for someone from a similar engineering production environment, who understands and has worked on CNC machines, undertaken CAD/CAM/design, and has experience overseeing an engineering department, including Mechanical Fitting/CNC & Finishing. The team will consist of about 10 production staff.
The role is permanent and will pay a basic salary of £55–58k per annum.
The company is located in the South Manchester/East Cheshire area and is commutable from Stockport, Handforth, Macclesfield, and all areas of South Manchester.
Responsibilities- Oversee daily production operations to ensure efficient and timely product output.
- Develop and implement production plans and schedules to meet demand.
- Establish and maintain production procedures.
- Monitor and refine production processes, adjust schedules as needed, and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime.
- Lead, mentor and motivate a team of production staff.
- Promote a culture of safety, efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Manage operational requirements and handle disciplinary issues in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Conduct performance management, appraisals and set objectives.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reductions.
- Implement manufacturing techniques and best practices.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to streamline production processes and workflows.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proven experience in managing production processes in the engineering sector.
- Experience with 5‑axis CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, and manual lathes.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Must have the essential requirements to communicate meaningfully about work holding, tooling and machining techniques to manage the CNC workshop, and to actively program, set and machine if coverage is needed.
- Working and practical knowledge of CNC vertical machining centres and lathes (essential).
- Proficiency with Edgecam or a similar CAM programming package (essential).
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Proficiency in production planning and quality control.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail with a focus on quality and efficiency.
- Innovative thinker who can drive process improvements.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
